Meet Tàmara
From a young age, the allure of the beauty industry surrounded me, courtesy of my mother, a dedicated Aloette Cosmetics Consultant. As life unfolded, I found myself working in a salon and spa, initially as a receptionist. However, a transformative experience led me to question my place within the beauty industry. Despite lacking formal education in skincare, I felt a calling to contribute meaningfully, leaning towards makeup artistry with a unique twist - contemplating a career in the funeral business, specializing in makeup for the departed.
Motivated by a desire to support my two daughters, I took a bold leap and relocated to Vancouver, leaving the familiar in pursuit of a fulfilling career. Advised by astute administrators, I enrolled in the esthetics program, a decision that would reshape my trajectory. While makeup remained my passion, I discovered the importance of a solid foundation – the canvas (skin) being in optimal condition. This revelation opened doors to a holistic approach to beauty.
At the renowned Blanche MacDonald, my skills blossomed, earning me the top spot in my class. My instructors recognized my potential and facilitated connections with professional skincare brands, ensuring a job awaited me upon graduation. I excelled in roles ranging from manicures and pedicures to waxing, gradually expanding my expertise.
Returning to Alberta as a single mother with limited resources, I faced financial challenges. Commission-only positions and dual spa jobs, coupled with welfare, marked my early days. Undeterred, I navigated the spa industry, leveraging my hands-on experience to foster relationships with prestigious brands such as Eminence Organic Skincare, DMK, Loreal (Clarisonic division), and many more.
My commitment to continuous education led me to share my knowledge with fellow estheticians, observing gaps in their training. Determined to offer more, I established myself as a representative with a diverse portfolio, connecting professionals with a range of skincare, cosmetic, and spa technology companies.
Over the years, my journey expanded to encompass distribution and formulation roles with respected brands. As an educator, I've impacted thousands in the spa industry, covering a spectrum from facials and medical modalities to marketing and advertising strategies. My extensive background culminated in owning a successful medical spa, achieving a remarkable first-year revenue of 1.5 million.
Recognition followed, with consecutive nominations and awards for business excellence, marketing prowess, and outstanding customer service. Personally, I earned nominations for Women Entrepreneur of Central Alberta, a testament to my resilience and achievements. Awards for my contributions to the organic skincare line underscored my commitment to excellence in education and sales.
My passion lies in empowering entrepreneurial women in the industry. I draw from the challenges that forged my success, sharing insights to help others overcome hurdles and thrive in their businesses. My journey is a testament to the transformative power of passion, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in the dynamic world of beauty and wellness.
